Dear friends,
One year on from the passing of my father Gianluigi Bonelli,
the press, radio, television and your letters continue to send countless heartfelt testimonies
of your great regard for the creator of Tex Willer, whom you can see in the photo reproduced
here at the side (the photo was taken in 1988, during a "family outing" in that land of Arizona,
which, as you can see in Giovanni Ticci's drawing below, is the background to the saga
of Tex and his pards). I am so delighted at such a show of affection that I can't resist
telling you how many marvelous stories G. L. Bonelli had already thought up before creating,
together with Aurelio Galleppini, the first strip of Aquila della Notte, on that "historic"
night in 1948. With great pride, therefore, I am happy to offer you a whole book - it's a
free gift that comes with the Almanacco del West 2002 - that charts the long, fervent and
inimitable professional path of a man who has been justly described as "the patriarch of
Italian comics".
So enjoy your reading!
