ome reading material is soporific, other types stop you from sleeping...
What's for sure is that the
Almanacco della Paura
belongs to the latter category, and
even if there's never a lack of a soothing touch of irony in its pages: just
have a go at maintaining a cool, calm and collected attitude when faced with
the thousand faces of horror! For instance, in the 2001 edition, as well as the
usual reviews of what's new in the field of publications and cinema, you'll also
find four articles that are guaranteed to give you goose-flesh: one on a film in
which viruses, epidemics and bacteriological contaminations are spreading like
wildfire; one on the writer William Hope Hodgson; one on the Golem, the clay
giant of Hebrew legends; and one on the nasties of 1980s splatter cinema (Freddy
Krueger, Michael Myers, Leatherface, Jason Vorhees). In "Qualcuno nell'ombra",
the comic strip story contained in the Almanac, Dylan Dog is accused of being a
multiple murderer, and unfortunately the evidence against him seems
overwhelming… But in the regular series as well, the fearless Investigator from
Craven Road faces unpredictable and often inhuman Destiny, like that which, in
"Un colpo di sfortuna" (at your news-agent's until March 26) embarks on a bitter
onslaught against a man who has won the first prize in a lottery only to find
that a medical diagnosis makes a mock of his luck. In
"Il seme della follia",
Dylan is devoured by the obsessive need to avenge the brutal murder of the girl
he was in love with, who is killed in a macabre ritual inspired by the notes of
a song conceived in the contorted and perverted mind of Bloody Murray, a
character who will take the place of Hannibal Lecter in your worst nightmares!
And you haven't seen anything so far… Because in the next issue the menace Dylan
has to contend with is perhaps more immaterial, but certain no less lethal:
"something" is taking possession of the Earth, stealing memories, alienating
minds, insinuating itself into people and forcing them to kill. What "Project"
is it carrying out? |
