Start the engines, fasten your seatbelts… Gregory Hunter's space adventures are about to start! |
 |
Tuesday 10 APRIL |
In the second issue we will begin to find out a bit more about the stellar empire that once dominated the galaxy… |
| |
A new universe, new companions of adventures… from the amusing Badger to the she-giant Sandrach, these are the figures with whom our hero will share the pages of our new monthly album! |
| |
A space sheep or nothing short of a real home? The "Jolly Roger" not only flies
through space and is armed with powerful weapons, but it is also a sort of cosmic
"camper"! |
| |
A ghost, a curse from which there is no escape, a mysterious hooded
figure that guides us through the Galaxy… Gregory Hunter is all this and more! |

inally, the great moment has arrived! After over two years of preparation,
we're about to witness the landing of Gregory Hunter, the Space Ranger, who will
be coming back to earth at your news-agent's! You'll find action, grand
scenarios, dynamism (but also loads of amusement). In the tradition of the great
"historical" characters of our Publishing House (especially Tex and Zagor), here
is a new and very modern protagonist who will once again rank Adventure (with
capital A) as his strongest point.
But who is Gregory? Well, the title of the
first album already says it all. Gregory belongs to a special corps (the Space
Rangers, precisely) that upholds law and justice in a cosmos overcrowded with
aliens and dire threats of all kinds, a cosmos in which human beings - the only
ones in possession of the secret of hyperspatial engine that lets you travel
faster than the speed of light - are a dominating power. A new Frontier, in
other words, with all its dangers and difficulties, a situation that calls for
men who will shrink at nothing and endowed with enormous experience. And Gregory,
because of a stormy past which we will gradually, very gradually, reveal as the
albums come out, definitely has a whole lot of experience! And so does his
inseparable travel-cum-companion of adventures, Badger… No, this isn't a monkey,
as you might think when you see him here at the side of the column… and it's
best if he doesn't hear you defining him as a monkey… otherwise he might get
offended and start hitting out with his fists (and with his paws, that's for
sure!). Badger is a Tallarian, the last (?) surviving specimen of his race… but
he doesn't believe it, and he travels round the cosmos together with Gregory in
the hope of finding his lost girl-friend again. Another unique exemplar is the
she-giant Sandrach: well over two meters tall, with white skin and white hair,
she is actually the sole heir of a vanished stellar empire, lost in the mists of
past centuries, which will form the background to quite a few of our heroes'
adventures. And here we also have Chris Marderson, head of the Space Rangers
and Gregory's adoptive father (a man who's so gruff you'd have trouble finding
another like him). And then there's another "character" - yes it's a veritable
character although it's only a mechanical object - namely Gregory and Badger's
space ship, the "Jolly Roger". Superfast and equipped with a short retractable
tower armed with small cannons, the "Jolly Roger" is the only fixed scenario of
our heroes' stories, as they travel constantly from one planet to another,
accompanied by another two weird characters: Brynner, a ghost that is tormenting
Gregory because of a curse, and the Monaco Errante ["Wandering Monk"], an
interdimensional being capable of guiding even us, as we read the Space Ranger's
adventures, through the meanders of a universe full of coups de theatre, unknown
planets and new civilizations. And of course, there will be no lack of baddies…
from Kraken's ruthless star hunters to fiendish criminals who hold sway over
entire planets. Gregory will find himself in dire straits quite a few times in
endeavouring to re-establish justice so that he can start off again, together
with Badger, on his never-ending peregrinations around the cosmos in search of a
way to free himself of the curse that weighs heavily on his shoulders. All this
in ninety-six pages of white-hot comic strip, in which action never stops, the
words "End of the episode" don't exist, but the more classical "To be continued!"
make each story flow into another in a constant evolution of events that will
transport you beyond the final Frontier of the cosmos! Happy Adventuring!
