WHAT'S HAPPENED TO THE MARTIN MYSTÈRE OF THE FUTURE,
or in other words to
the perfect duplicate of Good Old Uncle Marty, who was "reborn" at the end
of the Twenty-second century? Five years on from the appearance of the first,
unforgettable Special "Martin Mystère & Nathan Never",
the detective of the Impossible once more returns to work alongside the Alfa Special Agent to
solve once and for all the final enigma of the mysterious Elsewhere base, in
a cliff-hanger adventure that is particularly long (it runs to no fewer than
238 pages!), written by Vincenzo Beretta (on a subject by Castelli, Serra
and Beretta), with artwork by Gino Vercelli. In contrast, the two-part
adventure you will find in the March and April issues features the
"original" Martin Mystère who finds himself having to investigate an
apparently inexplicable "tragedy of madness", which takes place in the New
York of our own era. How on earth could it be that a quiet peaceable
scientist barbarously butchered his own wife for no apparent reason and then
committed suicide? Underlying all this there's the wicked misdeeds of an
organization that has discovered how to transform even the most innocuous
persons into ferocious and unstoppable murderers… and it's a secret that was
already known, centuries ago, to the ancient Aztecs! To shed light on this
obscure and highly intricate question, Martin is obliged to work in
cooperation - unwillingly - with a mature professional killer, but he's
determined to do whatever it takes for the sake of finding out the truth.
Wanted by the police, our detective-archaeologist finds himself caught up in
a desperate race to save the life of Diana Lombard, kidnapped by a cruel
adversary who will brook no obstacles on his path… But Mystère's unlikely
ally turns out to be truly implacable: it's impossible to stop a man who's
incapable of feeling either pain or tiredness, not to mention compassion! An
appalling journey to the roots of violence, embodied in the scripts by Paolo
Morales and the artwork by Morales himself, together with Fabio Grimaldi. |
